Let's Help This Family
Tweet
Recently, I wrote about a very sweet family from Guatemala (read about them here). This family has been through so much together. Their son, Brian, has spina bifida, and only until recently was bed-ridden. The father is physically handicapped and must resort to shining shoes for a living, something that probably only earns him a few dollars a day. The mother is mentally handicapped and can only work some of the time. There are several children in the family, and most recently, one of their daughters Heidi suffered a serious accident. She is recovering from surgery, but this is just one of many setbacks the family has been through together.
This is the latest picture of Heidi, the girl who fell and injured her head, resulting in 25 staple/stitches, a shaved head, and a slow recovery. She is wearing a hat to cover her shaved head. She is poking her head out of the rusted lamina that makes the walls of her house. This is the face of a girl whose life would seriously be impacted by a few dollars sent from loving people from far away.
Let's see how much money we can raise in one week. We need to get the money to the family quickly so the construction project on their house can begin and be successful.
Let's do this together. There are so many reasons, I'll let you just think of one. And if you choose to donate, share in the comments why you did.

In spite of so many challenges, I can personally attest that this is an amazing family. In 2010 when we visited with a team of students, we spent about an hour visiting with this family. They were happy, generous, hospitable, and such a wonderful group of people. They live in a squatter settlement called La Primavera, which is built upon the side of a very steep hill. Unfortunately now, the land that the house is built upon is beginning the erode. Steady rains, poor construction, and no help from the city results in a home that literally is falling apart, down the side of the mountain.
I have learned that in the next month, Hearts for Heaven ministry plans to do some basic construction to fix the parts of the house that are falling into the ravine. I know that this family could use assistance financially as well. It would be incredible to bless this family from far away, from people who they do not know personally, but they know we love God and so we love them in whatever way we can. A small bit of money would make a HUGE difference for this family and give them hope. It would encourage them to continue to look for the good in a life that is filled with so much bad. It would give them the spark to share the love that they have with the people in their community and neighborhood whom they see every day.
