Restless....

This quote came through the MINemergent daily email a few days ago. It describes me perfectly:

"Restless for change

Leaders are fascinated by future. You are a leader if and only if, you are restless for change, impatient for progress and deeply dissatisfied with status quo. Because in your head, you can see a better future. The friction between 'what is' and 'what could be' burns you, stirs you up, propels you. This is leadership. (Marcus Buckingham) "

I remember a very specific night in college when I was with a group a friends out at a state park. We were singing, praying, laughing and just enjoying life. As night fell, we looked out over the lake at the stars. Everyone shared about how happy and content they were. Someone asked me, "How are you feeling?"

I said that I was chronically discontent.

My friends were confused, and I remember they almost chided me for feeling this way. They said, "Why aren't you happy? Enjoy the moment. Be thankful." I felt frustrated, longing for more. I dreamt of a different, better way of living and loving in the world.

This quote from Marcus Buckingham is the first time someone has affirmed those feelings.
