A long time "friend" gone...

Today I lost a companion that I have had with me for as long as I can remember - "the bump." It was on my head, and when I cut my hair short you could easily see it. If you put your hand on my head, you could definitely feel it - and it was weird. So I wanted to get rid of it.

Only an hour in the dermatologist's office, and they had cut the skin on my scalp open, and removed the entire cyst. It was the same size as a large kidney bean. Pretty gross.

And now I have to wear this super cool bandage wrapped around my head, because apparently there are hundreds of blood vessels in the scalp that like to bleed profusely.

The good news is, I am going to the David Gray concert tonight at the Ohio Theater.....

Community & Spanish

New show Community features a Spanish 101 class at a community college. Pretty funny scenes. The end of last week's show featured two characters doing a Spanish rap (below) - it's funny to me for two reasons: 1) Kellye teaches Spanish, is fluent, and I know a little bit. The words of the rap are just hilarious. 2) My students at Horizon Middle School are always making beats, hitting the table, beat boxing, and starting little rap songs. I could totally hear them doing this.

Sometimes teaching feels like...

This video reminds me of what I felt like sometimes trying to teach freshmen theology classes

Stuff White People Like -

#122 Moleskine Notebooks

Best lines....

Thankfully, since white people only keep their most original and creative ideas in the Moleskine, many of them will only be required to purchase one per lifetime.

One of the strangest side effects has been the puzzling situation whereby a white person will sit in an independent coffee shop with a Moleskine notebook resting on top of a Apple laptop.  You might wonder why they need so many devices to write down thoughts?

So when you see a white person with one of these notebooks, you should always ask them about what sort of projects they are working on their free time.  But you should never ask to actually see the notebook lest you ask the question “how are you going to make a novel out of five phone numbers and a grocery list?”

--

This week in class, I really did pull out my black, unlined moleskine notebook to copy down a quote on the board - my students asked me about it - I bragged about how awesome they were.

Scary....sad....true....

My new favorite website....

...Michele Norris Facts

We are all familiar with the funny-the-first-time-but-"oh God please make it stop"-annoying-Chuck Norris Facts.

And now we have "the anti-Chuck" - NPR's Michele Norris. She's a woman; she's black' she's on radio, not TV (most of the time); she's liberal. Not an official webpage, but so funny. Here's a sampling:

Michele Norris Fact #20

February 3rd, 2009

planetearthTalk of the Nation was originally called Norris of the Nation,
until NPR realized that Michele Norris could not be contained by this
galaxy let alone one medium-sized nation on planet Earth.

Tragic...

Man discovered to have two church families

Favorite quote:
"It rattles you when a double life is lived right in front of you and
you don’t even suspect it," says the group leader. "I’m especially
upset that William participated in an accountability group in Seattle.
Talk about breaking trust."

Hulu and the Christmas Grouch

I've been hearing and seeing a lot about hulu, a free video viewing website, and one of the first videos that came up (of course after Brittney Spears, *hurl*) was this old Sesame Street with Oscar singing about how he hates Christmas.

This is such a funny video, and obviously over the top, but the truth is, I'm not a big fan of all the "Holiday" junk that's all over the place this time of year. The commercials are so cheesy, the carols are so repetitive, the decorations are so cheap - Sometimes I feel like Oscar the Christmas Grouch, and I've got a reputation for being a bit of a Scrooge at school.

No positive ending to this post - I just thought this video really fit my Christmas personality....sometimes :)

Selfish Jean Video

These great rockers from across the pond have a new album out, and so as I was checking out their site I found this video of a great song from their last album. Pretty funny stuff, and good music.
