Recovering
Tweet
We are recovering from quite a bit. Kellye is recovering from major surgery. We are both recovering from the shock of the events, the speed of the progression of her sickness and the severity of her condition. Most of all, we are recovering from the realization that we are parents two months sooner than we expected. There are so many things we had planned to research, learn about, purchase, put together and get settled in the two months before Aleli was born. And now she is here.
We are grateful and happy that both Kellye and Aleli are healthy, safe, and in the process of recovery. But the process of recovery is long. And the experience of recovery includes pain, hard work, questions, and just flat out tough days sometimes.
Today was a tough day for Kel. Her blood pressure continued to stay high, which is a concern to the doctor. She was given an IV port, but then had an allergic reaction and her entire arm turned red! During this time, I was visiting Aleli, trying to get some good "daddy-daughter bonding" time in. This left Kel alone with nurses, food service, doctors, and others coming in every 15 minutes to poke, prod and question. Furthermore, this is her third day since labor, which tends to be when the "post-partum downside" begins to set in. So when I finally put Aleli back in her bed, I checked my phone and had a text from Kel that said "Come back. I need a hug."
Thankfully, we have had a good afternoon and early evening together. Kel's mom was super-helpful and delivered our dinner order (Panera!). Our friends Scot and Mary visited me while I was with Aleli, and so they were able to get a few good photos. These pictures are Kellye's inspiration while she is in her hospital room, and she really enjoyed seeing me looking like a dad.
Also, we know that we have wonderful friends supporting us from afar. Your prayers, messages of support, and love are felt every day. Yeah, today was a little tough, and we know the recovery process is going to be long and even more difficult at times. But, we have each other. We have our family. And we have the help of God with us every moment. And we are moving forward.
